Bandung, TELKOM UNIVERSITY – Telkom University as a private university that has a vision as a Research and Entrepreneurial University created an innovation ‘Automatic Garden Watering with Renewable Energy (Solar Panel)’.
‘Automatic Garden Watering with Renewable Energy (Solar Panel)’ is a multifunctional irrigation that serves to facilitate the productivity of strawberry plantation farmers in West Java Province, precisely in Sindang Reret Village, Bandung Regency. This innovative product was created by Wizman Rofiansyah, Mohammad Ariel and Mohammad Irsyad Helmy who are Telkom University students.
Wizman Rofiansyah as the team leader explained that this multifunctional Automatic Garden Watering irrigation can be utilized by farmers who still water plants conventionally. The idea is to modernize strawberry plantations so that the energy used can be more efficient and save time.
“Besides that, monitoring can also be done on this plantation to support increased production and the resulting harvest can increase,” he explained.
Wizman added that he and his team provided a solution to the existing conditions in Sindang Reret village, which is still using conventional or manual plant watering techniques that are considered less effective and efficient. Therefore, he and his team want to make it easier for the garden farmers of Sindang Reret village by modernizing it.
“With the tool we made, namely Automatic Garden Watering, it can provide solutions for garden farmers in the form of multifunctional irrigation by utilizing solar renewable energy in the form of solar panels as a source of electricity and water pumps in tanks for water supply to plantations. Automatic Garden Watering is integrated with smartphones through a website using IoT so that it can provide information to farmers, starting from soil moisture, pH and temperature.” Thanks to this innovation, Wizman and his team won the Best Earth/Green Conservation and Best of The Best awards at the Social Project competition, Innovillage 2022: Young Heroes in Action: Empowering Young Sociopreneurs for National Development. Innovillage is an activity resulting from the collaboration between the Community Development Center of PT Telkom Indonesia and Telkom University which has produced a number of innovations and solutions that have an impact on people’s social lives.
