The community service activity proposed by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at Telkom University is a collaboration to build a microhydro power plant (PLMH) using an Archimedes turbine as a source of street lighting in Padamukti Village, Margamukti District, Pangalengan. The area to be lit by the PLMH is located in the middle of a plantation and far from the PLN electricity network, even though it is a busy route used by the community to transport agricultural products or milk and for daily activities around the clock.
The construction of the microhydro power plant will utilize the small river flow under the bridge around Padamukti Village, Margamukti District. Direct observations at the site show a drop of about 1.2 meters in the river flow, which can be considered as head and a water flow of about 20 liters per minute that can be converted into electricity. The estimated potential that can be converted is around 200-300 watts depending on the flow of water. It could be greater during high rainfall conditions. Therefore, the microhydro turbine will be designed with a maximum power generator of 500 watts to receive mechanical power from fluctuating water.
The inauguration of the microhydro power plant for lighting will be scheduled in accordance with the agenda of the Head of Wargamukti Village, Pangalengan, Bandung Regency. At the handover ceremony, which will be represented by the head of RW 24 Wargamukti Village (the person standing in the middle wearing a blue jacket) and several residents who attend, expressed their gratitude to Telkom University for this grant. Hopefully, on the next occasion, more can be added because there are still many points along the road that need lighting.
